One of the fastest developing areas for steel building construction is the United States Southwest. CSI dealer Charlie Walters of Caas Steel Southwest in Arizona. Charlie has only been a Capital Steel builder for just under two years but has just completed a couple of important projects in The Grand Canyon State. A new 10,000 square foot private company parts steel warehouse with an office facility is now open for business. In meeting with the owners it was decided that a single-slope configuration would best suit their parts storage requirements. The entire structure was completed in just 5 weeks.
Charlie has also teamed with Conoco/Phillips recently to provide them with a 125x100 insulated steel roof-only structure for tanker fueling. This structure was left open as it is going to be distributing gasoline and diesel to a fleet of 250 trucks at the rate of 9,000 gallons per truck per hour, 24 hours a day. More importantly this facility was up and running in only 6 ½ weeks.
Not one to rest on his heels Charlie is now working hard on a third project.
When asked for his secrets for success, in a struggling national economy, Charlie Walter’s comments are as direct and honest as the building advice he gives to his customers. “My biggest source for new business is to be right on it” Charlie says, “Get to the site or to the customer’s office as soon as possible and just talk to them about their needs. Then I give the client a basic idea of how much his project will cost as quickly as I can…you’d be surprised the number of contractors that won’t even return a call to someone just needing answers on a building project.” Charlie also knows that communication and trust is key. “Yes, I want the project” he states, “but I also look to develop a relationship with the customer first.”
With nearly 24 months as a Capital Steel dealer Charlie was asked how the experience has been. Charlie relates, “In my time being a Capital Steel dealer I have not one complaint. If someone is interested in becoming a CSI dealer have them call me. Mike Downing and all the guys at corporate have been great…any issues are solved quickly”.
The formula for future success as a Capital Steel dealer is simple to Charlie. “Service, service, service the account…”, he states, “Yes, pricing is important, but I point to the quality I can provide to take care of the customer. I’m not there to sell them something they don’t need…I’m going to quickly isolate their needs and sell them only what they require.”
Charlie Walters sums up the conversation quickly but effectively as he is a busy man. “My experience with CSI pretty much speaks for itself with the success of my projects. Any difficulties or challenges get dealt with quickly and we just keep on going…”
For Charlie, that means going down an Arizona highway to the next successful project.
